Eight Wheeler

Guest Vehicle !

You may remember a few articles ago, I offered you the opportunity to win on that blog an eight wheel military vehicle. The winner is back and presents his price perfected with some modifications of his own. What is most amazing about the whole story is the fact that the private owner managed not to cause havoc in the streets with his armoured cannon bearing troop transport 8x8, and not having it confiscated. This deserves to be recognized!

  1. Hey Conhan, you seem to be quite the petrolhead, so I'm shocked that you made a technical mistake in that last entry of yours.
That vehicle is clearly a eight-wheel drive, or 8x8, and not a 4x4 as you stated.

According to Wikipedia those eight-wheel drive vehicles can be driven only with 4 wheel drive.

"In the case of both truck and armored vehicle applications, drive may be limited to the rear two axles for on-road use, this reducing driveline stress and tire wear, and increasing fuel efficiency."

That would still make it a 4X8 on the road, and a 8x8 off road, surely not a 4X4!

    1. Hi Joe! Thanks for the interest you take in this blog!
If we want to use technical terms appropriately (and maybe we should), the vehicle we're talking about is surely more than a 4x4, having 8 wheels. We were of course using the term "4x4" as an equivalent to the term "all terrain vehicle", even if this military vehicle is more of a 8x8 indeed. We could also consider this vehicle has four driving wheels for each group of four wheels it has, making it a four by four (or two four by fours in that case!). As you can see in the label tags underneath the post, the article is also linked in the '4x4' category for practical reasons, making it easier to find rather than creating a new '8x8' category where he might end up for now quite isolated. All that being said, we're correcting the error in the post itself, although the '4x4' tag will remain for practical reasons! Be sure to check the other posts too!

  2. Also one thing that shocks me (besides the big ass cannon, the machine gun and the anti-tank missiles) is that blue flashing light on the vehicle.
Maybe that person has valid LEO credentials to legally have emergency light on his vehicle?

    1. That top mounted blue flashing light is quite conspicuous indeed! I couldn't tell if the owner has the legal right to use such a light or not, but we could indeed ask to one of our law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter. If indeed the light is illegal, the owner could be forced to have it removed and be fined and possibly jailed. I'd just want to draw your attention on the fact Joe, that several other vehicles shown here as guest vehicles also display these blue lights. Do you think we should have those investigated too? I'm sure at least some of them must have the necessary paperwork after all... Thanks for drawing our attention on this matter though! I'll have a word with my men in the sheriff department or my colleagues from other agencies!
